Saint Irene

The double-aisled parish church of Saint Irene stood on Delimarkou Street, opposite Saint Anastasia, and was probably erected in the Byzantine period. This is suggested by its colonnades with marble columns and Byzantine corinthian-style capitals, recorded in a photograph by G. Gerola. In the Ottoman period, it was probably converted into a bath, and subsequently into a tekke. In 1928 it was sold to a private individual and was demolished in 1955.
