7, Apokoronou Street – Bey Sekeria (Sekeriadakis) Mansion

The building was erected before 1893 in the Balta Camii quarter. It constitutes a representative example of the eclectic architectural idiom that emerged in the city during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Both the spatial organisation and the morphological vocabulary result from a synthesis of Balkan domestic architecture—predominant in the overall scheme—and elements derived from Neoclassicism.

The mansion was constructed at the rear of a large courtyard, originally equipped with a free-standing fountain and a wall fountain. The plan is rectangular, while the articulation of the principal façade adheres to strict axial symmetry. The central bay is accentuated by an enclosed projecting balcony (sachnisi), surmounted by a wooden pediment framed by a composite moulded cornice with dentils. A distinctive feature of the composition is the attic positioned at the centre of the roof.
